Tasting note

Bold, spiced and French oaked

Aged for 12 months in 50% new French oak and 50% second fill French oak, this Shiraz shows aromas of dark berries, black pepper and violets.

They lead to a palate of ripe plum, subtle spice and a savoury edge, with a natural freshness that brings lift and finesse to a bold, expressive red.

Candy Girl No.1 is a mixed media portrait with hand painted features and candy coloured hair made from real rubber bands, photographed and layered in relief. She is the first of Martin Osner’s Candy Girls series.

Martin chose her for this Shiraz because she is playful and full of attitude, like a bold, spiced red with plenty of personality.

Where to taste Bloupunt

Taste Bloupunt at Bloupunt Winery, Montagu

Bloupunt is made and poured at Bloupunt Winery in Montagu, on Route 62, where the mountains give way to the Karoo, South Africa’s semi arid desert. You can taste the full range, eat with a view of the mountains, and see original work by Martin Osner and Samantha Lee Osner.

Why the name: the original farm sat tucked into the back corner of Montagu, where the mountains are high, and fell into shadow every afternoon. It became known as Die Blou Punt, Afrikaans for the blue point, and the wine carries the name to celebrate that heritage.

The rest of the collection hangs at Osner Gallery in Hout Bay, twenty minutes from Cape Town. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. Sunday by appointment, booked the day before.
