Osner Gallery is a house above Hout Bay, twenty minutes from Camps Bay and the city. The rooms are hung with original art, and the terrace looks out over the bay to the mountains.
What you will do
A talk, a gallery walk, and your own artwork to make
You bring the photograph. They show you, at the studio table, the techniques behind the work in their gallery: paint, gold leaf and transfer, worked into a printed photograph. Then you do it yourself, with them beside you, and leave with your own signed artwork, framed and delivered to your door if you wish.

The group afternoon is four hours with both artists, in a group of no more than five guests. For an afternoon to yourself, or a full day out photographing, ask us about dates.

Every option includes the talk, the gallery walk, the studio demonstration, your finished artwork, your painted T-shirt and a signed bottle of our wine. The afternoons also include a wine tasting. A group afternoon goes ahead with at least four guests; if yours cannot, you choose another date or a full refund, no questions asked.

Your afternoon with both artists, step by step
You spend the four hours with Martin Osner and Samantha Lee Osner, one at a time. One of them is with you throughout.
A talk, and your T-shirt
You arrive to a talk on the fine art of photography and on Photo Alchemy itself, and you are given your Osner T-shirt, painted in by the artists.
The gallery walk
We take you round the gallery and stop at the pieces that explain each alchemy process, and the DNA behind it: why the work was made the way it was.
Into the studio, a full demonstration
Down in the studio the technique is demonstrated from start to finish, at the table, with you standing round it.
Your own work, turned into art
We go through a selection of your own photographs together and choose one. Using the technique you have just been taught, that piece leaves as a work of art. We guarantee it.
Framed, or packed to travel
Once your piece is made, you choose. Framed, it is delivered to your door in Cape Town within two days. Unframed, we package it for you to take home.
Wine tasting, and your signed bottle
We open our award winning Bloupunt wines for a tasting, every label an artwork by Martin or Samantha. Choose your favourite, and the artist signs the bottle for you to keep.

What guests ask before they book
Do I need any painting or photography experience?
None at all. Most guests have never painted into a photograph before. You see the whole technique demonstrated first, and we guarantee that one of your own photographs leaves as a finished work of art.
Which photographs should I bring?
Bring a few of your own photographs on the day: on your phone, a hard drive or your camera. A landscape, a tree, the sea, a street or a portrait all work well. We choose one with you in the studio and turn it into art.
Will I meet both artists?
Yes. You spend the afternoon with Martin Osner and Samantha Lee Osner, one at a time. One of them is with you throughout, while the other looks after the gallery.
How many guests are in a group afternoon?
Four or five, never more. Small groups mean the artists have time for every guest's artwork.
What if not enough guests book my afternoon?
A group afternoon goes ahead with at least four guests. If yours cannot go ahead, you choose another date or a full refund, no questions asked.
Can we have the afternoon to ourselves?
Yes. A private afternoon is the same four hours for one guest or for two, a couple or two friends. Ask us about dates.
What is the private full day?
A full day for one or two guests with Martin Osner or Samantha Lee Osner. After the introduction, the gallery walk and the demonstration, you go out on location for two to two and a half hours to photograph material for the technique, then come back to the studio and make your artwork from it. Dates are limited, so ask us first.
Can I have my artwork framed?
Yes, you choose on the day. If you would like it framed, our framing workshop frames it and a courier delivers it to your door in Cape Town within two days. If not, we package it for you to take home.
How does payment work?
A deposit of 40% secures your booking. The balance of 60% is payable the day before your experience.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes. In the booking form, choose Buy a gift voucher. You pay for the places in full, and the voucher is emailed to you or straight to them. It is valid for 12 months, and they choose their own date when they book, using the code on the voucher.
How do I get there, and is there parking?
Osner Gallery is at 14 Luisa Way, Hout Bay, about twenty minutes from Camps Bay and the city. Directions and parking details come with your booking confirmation.
What if I need to cancel?
Our gallery cancellation policy applies. If you cannot make your date, tell us and we will move your booking to another day.
